About

Howard Elfant

On Board Since December 1996

OCSC: "Why do you sail?!"

HE: "I love the feeling the wind in the sails, and the physics of movement without an engine, how the boat cuts efficiently through the water. There is wonderful and ever-changing natural beauty, due to lighting, clouds, current and the animals (birds, seals, dolphins). Every sailing adventure is unique!"

OCSC: "What do you enjoy about working at OCSC?"

HE: "My fellow employees have a positive attitude, and commitment and drive to do a good job. I learn from my fellow instructors, and I have enjoyed teaching various classes on a variety of different boats."

OCSC: "What's your sailing background?"

HE: "Bay and ocean racing on boats 24-40' long. Single- and double-handed racing. Skipper on local cruises as well as in Tonga, Carribean, Canada and Mexico. 100 ton Masters license. Sailboat owner for more than 15 years (Olson 911 - performance cruising of 30')."

OCSC: "When you're not sailing, what can we find you doing?"

HE: "Leisure activities include sailing, camping, skiing, traveling, reading, and visiting with family and friends. I also work as an optician."

OCSC:  "What are your top 5 sailing books of all time?"

HE: "Performance Sail TrimFirst You Have to Row a Small Boat, Killer Ship."
