Timothy Koester Tim began his sailing career in Southern California when he and his Dad built an 8ft sailing dingy. From there they moved up to a 17ft Thistle. His racing experience began on a Columbia 28 with the annual Newport to Ensenada race. After graduating from college, his avocation took a different direction: aviation. During the 70s & 80s Tim owned 2 airplanes and earned his Private and Instrument rating. After moving around the US with his business career, Tim returned to San Francisco where he became actively involved with sailing again. His first experiences sailing on the Bay were with OCSC. This lead to owning 3 boats and becoming a sailing instructor in 1999. He currently works full time for Sun Microsystems, sails "Windward," his Catalina 42, and teaches part time at OCSC. In 3 to 5 years he plans to begin his cruising career in Mexico and the Caribbean. "I love to teach sailing because it allows me to share my passion for sailing with people. Sailing transports me into a different world, and I find it very hard to worry about anything. There is never a bad day when sailing on the San Francisco Bay!" |
