About

Tim Rayel

Tim Rayel

Tim comes to sailing from a background in live theatre and the film industry. Originally from the east coast, he settled in the Bay Area in 1987. In 1995 Tim joined OCSC as a member and began right at the start with with Basic Keelboat I. By 1997 he was a certified BBC Skipper and was racing in the Olson 25 fleet on the Bay. In 1998 he left his job as the Executive Producer of a film production company and went cruising up and down the east coast for two months. After returning to the Bay Area and the club, he volunteered to sail with new skippers who wanted to get out and practice. This led to thoughts of being an instructor, and the rest, as they say, is history.

"Teaching sailing at OCSC is very satisfying because of three main ingredients: consistent wind, great boats, and students who are having fun at the same time that they are learning."
