On Board Since August 2006 OCSC: Why do you sail? MH: Sailing is our human legacy; something beautiful and good that we have given to the world. I also really love the language of sailing. My sailing experience is limited, so listening to people talk about it is like listening to a foreign language. It's a language I'm excited to learn. And I love boats, wind, and water.
OCSC: What do you enjoy about working at OCSC? MH: The positive attitudes, mutual respect, good humor and genuine dedication.
OCSC: What's your sailing background? MH: I grew up riding the Staten Island Ferry and watching people sail on New York Harbor, but didn't set foot on a sail boat until I got to the Bay Area. I've been out on the water once so far and I'm eager to go out again.
OCSC: When you're not sailing, what can we find you doing? MH: Writing and reading; riding my bicycle; knitting; laughing and having fun; cooking, eating, and thinking about food; exploring the Bay Area and the rest of California
OCSC: What are your top five sailing books of all time?
MH: Moby Dick; The Shipping News; The Story of a Shipwrecked Sailor by Gabriel Garcia Marquez; a book I found at a thrift store when I was little about children solving a mystery at a lighthouse.
