OCSC: What sailing experience did you have before you came to OCSC?

SP: I had sailed on a friend's boat every now & then for 15 years. I had also taken the classes up through bareboat but sporadically, spread over eight years in Annapolis. I never achieved my US Sailing certification.  Unfortunately, Work was the main focus and I didn't have any time for it!

OCSC:  What do you like about sailing?

SP: It's a regular challenge and a way to combine travel and exploration of sailing. It adds another dimension and it's fun! It's all about continuous learning -- there are so many variables in every "voyage" that I always return having learned or reinforced something.

OCSC: What brought you to OCSC?

SP: Other than Max… I think it was based on balance between professionalism, club atmosphere, fun and technical sailing. I also enjoy that there are many people passionate about sailing both on the staff and within the membership who strive to improve their skills & that you can learn from.

OCSC:  Why did you decide to become a member?

SP:  I was committed to sailing frequently. I also wanted to expand my technical knowledge & confidence on the water. I wanted to take full advantage of all the club had to offer -- whether training or chartering or social events.

OCSC: What sailing goals do you have?

SP:  From the technical side -- to get certified in celestial and OPM. On a personal side -- to do more blue water sailing and passage sailing. I'd also like to continue to charter overseas.

OCSC: What do you do when you're not sailing?

SP: Travel, cycling, other forms of exercise. Not working!
