OCSC's "Navigation II" seminar/study hall
Navigation II
is the second of a three-part navigation series offered to all OCSC members and students free-of-charge. This seminar builds on Navigation I and is the final necessary training for safe navigation on San Francisco Bay.

Topics covered:

  • Proper use of plotting tools and which ones work the best
  • Taking bearings and establishing fixes
  • The best landmarks and buoys for bearings
  • Course planning
  • Speed/time distance calculations
  • Accounting for current on San Francisco Bay

Good to know:

  • This seminar is free for students enrolled in classes at OCSC and members. Reservations are required, so please call to reserve your space.
  • Plotting tools are loaned to you for this course, but to sail on San Francisco Bay you will need your own. After this course, you should feel more comfortable about purchasing dividers, hand bearing compass and a plotter.
  • We have a selection of the most useful tools in the Pro Shop, and our staff will be happy to advise you on your purchases.
