The OCSC Team Regatta is an event that immerses your people in the joy, competition, and challenge of a series of races -- a regatta. In this environment, they'll practice communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills guided and coached by our uniquely skilled OCSC facilitator/skippers.
The full-day curriculum helps participants develop the teamwork necessary to handle a yacht and maneuver it around a series of challenging courses on San Francisco Bay. In the morning, the team will build their skills and learn how to command and control their yacht, guided by a professional instructor.
Each participant will have the opportunity to command the vessel, steer her, and guide the team through the course, while the other team members control the mainsail, the jib, and act as tacticians. After achieving the objective, the team members rotate positions until each has performed all the duties. They then can determine the ‘optimum’ team assignments based on their talents as they prepare to race the yacht against the others in the afternoon.
Team Regatta on board a J/24
Performance improves rapidly as the team works together to develop communication and cooperation, and the results are often amazing: You'll see team members with no previous sailing experience, possibly not even a leader, bloom at the helm. Extraordinary things can happen when co-workers become teammates in search of optimum performance , in this case, winning a race. Invest in your group with a Team Regatta, and you'll see the results back in the office as well as on the bay. As Dianne Morrison, of MorrisonMcNabb, can attest, the Team Regatta was "an incredible experience. It was wonderful to work with all of you, and we are looking forward to our return."
Team Regatta on board a J/105
As with a Team Challenge, with a Team Regatta, you have two types of boats to choose from, depending upon the type of experience you want: If you have small sub-teams, choose the J/24, a 24-foot performance racing yacht. Then you'll experience the drama of being close to the water and in tight quarters, in a nimble boat. With a J/24, a team of four can have a wet and wild experience with tiller steering and a professional skipper right on board. But if your sub-teams are larger and your team might want a drier sail, choose the J/105, a 35-foot performance racer that has more open space, wheel steering, room for 6, the possibility of flying a spinnaker, two professional skippers, and more speed.
Team Challenge or Team Regatta...What's the difference?
The Team Regatta and Team Challenge are two distinct events that are designed with different objectives in mind. The Team Regatta is a competitive experience among boats, while the Team Challenge fosters collaboration among an entire team.
