Machu Picchu Adventure

Dear Friends,

Every year, I design a new adventure that meets my life goals of traveling everywhere and seeing everything this wonderful planet has to offer. Previous trips have included walking safaris in Africa, kayaking, skiing and ice climbing in Antarctica, river rafting in Chile, sailing the Galapagos Islands, horseback riding through the Andes in Argentina and many others, as well as many others to come. I plan these trips around what my research indicates to be the best ways to get the very most out of each experience. This year I’d like to invite you to take the trek of a lifetime to Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu AdventureHigh on my list has always been the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Last year my good friend Leo Le Bon, the founder of Mountain Travel Sobek, told me about a brand new way to experience the Inca Trail with all the comforts of a European-style mountain lodge each night, as opposed to camping. We immediately sat down and committed ourselves to designing the “ultimate trek to Machu Picchu” with all the best of Peruvian culture and history rolled in, while adding real comfort as well for every night. And we wanted it to be fully guided by the best guides in the business. We previewed the complete trip last June in company with the National Geographic photo and writing team. They and the editor of National Geographic Adventure were so impressed that they dedicated the November 2007 cover and ten-page feature story to the experience. In addition, this trip made the top of their list of the “25 BEST New Trips in the World!” That really speaks to my business partner, Leo Le Bon’s, skill in bringing the best elements of a great adventure together. Put simply, he knows this stuff. So, last year on the June trip, I became so enamored with Peru, the people and the trek itself that I did it again the second time a few months later in October. We offered two departure dates to our membership last year, limited to 12 participants per trip, and both trips sold out within days.

This year, I have reserved two departure dates as well, one starting July 30th and the other starting October 1st. After polling the 24 participants from last year’s trips we have made some modifications to the itinerary. We have upgraded the hotels before and after the trek to 4 and 5 star properties throughout. I have also added an additional day for touring Machu Picchu. Everyone was so impacted by the magical ruins that they insisted that an extra free day be added to just tour the site at your own pace and explore its many wonders. When you look at the pictures of the beautiful mountain trails and the comfort of the lodges, the archaeology, extraordinary native people, exotic animals and vegetation and vistas, I think you’ll know that this is your year for Machu Picchu. I have to say, it really is the adventure of a lifetime.
